| San Francisco Symphony | |

DS has been invited to perform with the San Francisco Symphony on April 7-10 at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, CA. The performance will include a suite of songs from Whisper House, along with newly commissioned orchestrations for each piece, arranged by Simon Hale and conducted by Edwin Outwater and performed by a 90+ piece orchestra. In addition to DS, the program will include music from Gounod/Ballet music from Faust, Claude Vivier/Zipangu, and Poulene/Suite from Les Biches. | Sony/Victor set to release Whisper House | |
|
The collection of songs was written for a forthcoming theatrical piece. Whisper House marks the first solo album since White Limousine (2006) and comes on the heels of the success of the Broadway musical Spring Awakening. On Whisper House, Sheik employs a narrative approach to songwriting, combining elements of the chamber pop that first brought him critical and commercial acclaim. Much like Spring Awakening, which the New York Times praised as a deft blend of straight-up rock, folk and melodic pop, Whisper House is just as much a pop record as it is a musical theatre composition. Structured as a melodrama, each of the 10 songs on the album weave together to tell the story of a childs grief and spinsters longing as seen through the eyes of the ghosts that haunt the remote, World War II-era Maine lighthouse where they live. Singer-keyboardist Holly Brooke plays a prominent role alongside Sheik on several of the songs. This winter Sheik will perform the Whisper House songs on the road. (see tour section). The Art of Peace Foundation announced today that more than a dozen of the world's top contemporary musical artists, including Sting, Dave Matthews, Alanis Morissette, John Mayer, Suzanne Vega, Rush, Imogen Heap, Garbage, Damien Rice, Moby, Underworld, Duncan Sheik and many more have been brought together to create an album of 20 songs entitled, 'Songs for Tibet - The Art of Peace'. The project is the artists' expression of peace and support for Tibet and the Dalai Lama, and will be launched before the Olympics opens in Beijing.... read more.
