Yellow Umbrella Tour
Just to avoid confusion, I will be headlining the Yellow Umbrella shows in October and November. David Poe, Sarah Bettens and one other performer will be playing short sets prior to my set - which should be a “normal” 90 minutes or so (more if the club lets me!).
If you google “pop smear” and/or “yellow umbrella tour” you can find out more about the sponsor.
Sweet,
DS

Can we petition to make them let you player longer? Heh
Will you be full-band at the show? Or do you not have that planned yet? I’m looking forward to one of those; I haven’t been able to catch one, yet!

I googled & am glad I did. The Yellow Umbrella tour is an important issue — thanks for bringing attention to a great cause!

It will be either full band or “trio” depending on Gerry Leonard’s schedule.
Isn’t it nice how I put all the responsibility on the Ghost?

We got the E.P in LI. It is fantastic!
I googled The Yellow Umbrella Tour as well. I had no idea this was around. Very admirable cause. Glad I looked it up. Thanks for the info…
Poor Ghost… what will he do? :-)

Yay! Congrats on headlining Duncan!!
*crosses fingers for another Social date*
I miss K’s Choice.

Yeah!! All right!! I finally got my procrastinating arse to register for Duncan’s Weblog!!! Sorry it took so long . . . I hope to make up for it with many-a-posts.
Moving on . . . great to hear about the upcoming shows, Duncan! And I can’t wait for the new album. I remember the euphoria of listening to ‘Daylight’ for the first time, and I’m looking very forward to that feeling again!!
By the by, I have the urge to ask, now that I’m registered, what is the signifigance, if any, of the flattened & stacked cardboard boxes behind your initials that I see all over the sight. It’s a very unique and interesting choice, and I’m very curious as to the meaning. (if they aren’t flattened & stacked cardboard boxes, I apologize and would therefore add the question ‘what is that a picture of?’).
Much thanks for EVERYTHING!
~Sad Steven
P.S. In case there aren’t enough exlamation points in this post . . . !!!!!!!!!!!!!! & !

Hello Dunca…You probably hear it all the time but I am a huge fan and have been since I was a teen!! I adore your style and admire your amazing musical abilities. You’ve inspired me so much in life that words can’t describe…Anywho, good luck with your shows, I hope to see one soon - The last time I saw you was at the Aimee Mann concert in ALbany NY like few years ago!
August 22nd, 2005 at 8:14 pm
hooray to duncan headlining !
hope gerry can fit the irving date into his plans !
August 22nd, 2005 at 11:10 pm
This is a fantastic cause!
Is there anything that can be done on the sidelines?
Fund-raising? Awareness activities?
Why’s the tour called “Yellow Umbrella?”
All I can think of is the Iodized salt label… hmm.
Congrats on being the headliner. You deserve the attention, especially with the cause you’re playing for. So the longer the sets, the better. ;-)
Toodles for now- sleepy tea mix is starting to kick in.
Ahhhh. . . . . . . chamomile.
Susann
Ps. Tell Gerry to suck it up. (but in a nice way)
You two are like pb&j- good alone, but best together.

DS,
Excellent new B-sides, Oddly you always seem to fit my groove and your music evolves in the most excellent of ways. Way to be true to what you are and not the pop b*llsh*t ruling the airwaves.
Good luck with the tour and bring it home here at the Ford in LA. Nothing ends a great summer in my life it seems like a new album from DS.
And by the by, as a person who’s life has been changed in a personal way by someone dealing with the very problems the Yellow Umbrella tour is about, cheers for caring about things that normally are overlooked.
Congrats on everything and can’t wait to hear you live for the first time since the Humming tour.

trio or full band…that’s not what we come to see! ;) by the way, for those of you yet to discover the goodness of Sirius radio: they play the Sheik like no one’s business. Seriously, they just love him on The Spectrum. Go get yourself a heapin’ helpin’ of some no commercial, very little DJ, and great taste in music music!
August 23rd, 2005 at 8:54 am
excellent cause…thanks for your support Duncan!
much applause to His Ghostliness also, whose hauntingly, superb Spookiness compares to no other! :)

I’m very happy that your Headliningg Duncan. Don’t tell the other D this, but I do think that he is getting a bit full of himself. That’s just the picture that I get and I have been a Poe Fan for many years now. After all….he does have about a 1000 pics or so of himself (maybe more posted). Come on….. A bit too much in my opinion.
** I’ll be there to see you.

It’s pretty funny. Last time I was set to see you, Duncan, I was assaulted about a block from where you were playing in Phoenix and ended up in the hospital for the remainder of the evening. Stitches, cast the works. It was all very tragic, and I cried for days. My friend, Val gets to see you in concert and she even has you sign a $5.00 bill for me…. that was last year. I still haven’t seen it.
Come to Little Rock, soon…… please. I will avoid getting beat up and loaning friends money. Just make a stop in the Rock.
Thank you

Leveriza put out a call for some of us to offer up some suggestions of places to eat while you’re in VA….It’s been a long time since I was last there, ??? sorry…however, I do know the post office is just right down the street from where you’re playing tonight…but hopefully you won’t have to walk that far to get your mail… :)
Have a good night.
Drive safe!!

I must say thanks for coming to CT again Duncan, if I got it right the last time you were here was back in 97 or so? I may just have to pull out the original tour t-shirt again which is in fact the only tour shirt I own.
anyway, looking forward to it!

I’m so excited to be seeing you play in Raleigh on friday night.
I have gotten so many people who said they would come, just by talking about it. They play a commercial on the radio and everytime I hear it at work, my coworkers look at me and say “here’s your commercial”. I have liked you for as long as I can remember…..I think I was a sophmore in high school when I first heard you.
But I will be there, along with most of my coworkers and many of my customers. You have no idea….you have made me week.
My favorite song is Out of Order. Thanks for just singing and playing how you do. I really enjoy your music.
August 25th, 2005 at 12:39 am
Duncan are you ever going to come back to Austin or anywhere in the south? I was there at the SXSW and you had tons of fans show up man. Come on Duncan. YEEEHAAAAAAAA! LOL.
August 25th, 2005 at 7:00 am
Duncan:
great show last night in Alexandria. your voice sounds more crisp and refined than ever. Hope you make it back to MD/VA upon release of the new album. What’s the deal with the new beard?

Hey Duncan,
Is there anymore news on getting the EP available to those of us not able to get to a show?
Looking forward to when you’re coming back to the NorthEast, but…
Oh, thanks again for the B Sides! I love them.

Much to my excitment the Umbrella Tour is going be at the Fine Line in Minneapolis! It has been a long time coming (for me) and I am very much looking forward to this…thank you! (whoever is in charge of scheduling).
August 26th, 2005 at 11:32 am
You’re playing the Double Door?!
That’s fantastic! A very hip little venue!
Yeahgo good noise and good causes!
See you next time,
Susann
August 26th, 2005 at 11:59 am
Sweet, coming to Minneapolis! When are tickets available? I checked ticket master but they are not available as of yet.
On a side self promo note…sorry, but I’ve got to do it, I’m playing at The Fineline this Saturday, August 27th. Go to www.afterallweb.com to print off free tickets.
Sorry if my little self promo offends anyone…but it is kind of related since it is at The Fineline, and I am influenced by Duncan!
August 26th, 2005 at 12:36 pm
i saw this tour last year with K’s Choice (rip). sarah bettens however will tear it up for sure.
damn that would be a great show to see duncan and her. and if memory serves we correct - both of these artists got major mainstream appeal at the same time.
August 26th, 2005 at 8:18 pm
I saw you in charlottesville last night, you were amazing! For my first time seeing you live, I had a great time. I already love your new ep. Thanks for keepin’ up the good work.
August 26th, 2005 at 8:58 pm
Looking forward to the Nashville date…have missed you when you were in town before. And since the Belcourt is within walking distance, I hope to see the show. I am sure I would win the award for “knowing DS way back when”-you were probably 14 when you would visit Bill C and Jimbo in Flagler House and I was the exhausted new mom just trying to keep my head above water and the dorm quiet. E-mail me if you need restaurant recommendations or local info for the Nashville date. Here’s hoping the Hades-like heat breaks by then. Enjoy the tour.
August 27th, 2005 at 12:10 am
Got tickets for the World Cafe philly show. Can’t wait. I sure hope Gerry can make it, I heard the shows in Pittsburgh and Columbus were sick with Gerry playing. His guitar parts are sick on the new EP (Duncan, you are pretty good too).
Looking forward to October 17!

hi folks; longtime duncan fan and follower stumbling across this website for the first time in a long time. heard something new (single from white limo?) on chicago’s 93XRT and was thrilled it was a break from the vein of DAYLIGHT ~ based off a brief read of some of his postings here, as well as how he introduced “on a high” last time i saw him live (”another dumb pop song”), i assume he is pleased as well. sorry to have missed the Halsted Street Festival performance; sure it was spectacular.
August 27th, 2005 at 12:34 pm
Yayyy!! Can’t wait :).
And I just saw Anchorman for the first time… I get the milk quote lol.
August 28th, 2005 at 6:34 pm
Help! I’m stuck in the Adirondacks in the middle of NOWHERE! For REAL! I’m on vacation, in a cabin, in the woods, with nothing around me but water and trees… and it took the lodge-guy about 20 minutes to get me a wireless connection from here. We have no phone…no tv…i’ve been on a boat for hours, I smell like campfire, I’m sandy and dirty…phew…Yay, I’m on.
So, how are the shows going? Guess I better head on over to sheikfreik to get the scoop.
Peace out!
Have fun with these next shows Duncan and gang! Wish I could be there. Actually, I wish you guys could be here…it’s pretty cool. :)
Laura
August 28th, 2005 at 6:39 pm
p.s. Right now I’m listening to “Land”. Yep…sitting here in the lodge all alone……………..
*crickets chirping* ……….*bears growling*…..
Wowsa….this is an amazingly great song. :)
Good evening all!

I’ve just joined the members area and am sort of replying to this topic and the topic of the Ann Arbor show on August 6th: the set list was perfect and watching you up there, its really obvious that you truly enjoy what you are doing. And that’s why I’m so excited to see you back in Michigan in October-hope to see you with your beard still intact because you said my vote counted. And play as long as you like. Please.
Sarah
And on the topic of Anchorman, I hope this is not in bad form, but when you walked on stage with that thick beard I thought to myself, He looks like a miniture buddha all covered in hair…
August 29th, 2005 at 6:53 pm
I just want to say thanks for playing a kickass show in Columbia last night. I know the venue really sucks, but y’all were awesome. I have a new found respect for you and your music. I love how it’s not about the image or the fame or all the cock and bull surrounding the music industry…it’s simply about the art. Keep doing what you’re doing.
August 29th, 2005 at 11:26 pm
I haven’t gotten my ticket yet. Yikes!
Hey Duncan….. how you be? That’s slang for HOW ARE YOU?
:) love, M XO
August 30th, 2005 at 5:00 pm
I just wanted to take a few minutes and thank you for playing in Raleigh, NC. I was so happy to see you in coming to NC I traveled from Wilmington, NC to see the show. I have followed your music from the first album and this was my first opportunity to see you live. It was great(even with all of the audio glitches)!! I can’t wait until the new album comes out, but at least now I have the limited edition ep to hold me over. Keep up the amazing work!!
August 30th, 2005 at 6:45 pm
I’m leaving for Long Island in two days, so I’ll try as hard as I can to make the November 2 show!
August 30th, 2005 at 7:35 pm
Looking forward to the Milwaukee and Minneapolis shows!
August 30th, 2005 at 11:50 pm
Looking forward to another great Michigan show…can’t wait!
August 31st, 2005 at 12:29 am
I should wait til’ Duncan opens another blog topic, but sorry if I & the couple dancing at the Atlanta show were distracting. They weren’t very familar with your music and felt that everyone should dance. At some point though they got a bit pissy at the crowd for not dancing, and I didn’t like the idea of wriggling in front of people trying to watch the star attraction, so I quit going up there.
Awesome show, actually were it not for that negative I think I helped contribute to, it was the best show I’ve seen!! First time I’ve heard ‘Memento’ live, it always reminds me of my ex. Hope to see you (seated, or politely dancing in the background) in Athens :-)

Let me be the first (perhaps) to say props on being scheduled to play the Stone Church in Newmarket, NH. This is amazing news considering I go to UNH and Newmarket is a stones throw. Plus I don’t have to go to Boston. Yay!
September 12th, 2005 at 7:10 pm
I have but one simple request, dear Mr. Duncan Sheik. When you play in Detroit at the Majestic, could you please, please, please do Wonder Wall. (See my reply in another blog “Sheik Goes Minimalist”). I am awestruck by each and every one of your songs. They are in my head always and they touch my soul. Your covers are also so impressive because they put your special touch on familiar songs. I thought Wonder Wall (Ann Arbor show at The Ark) was amazing. Smooth and mature and mind-blowing. So, if you could just make a little note to yourself to add it to the setlist at that venue, it would mean the world to me. Your faithful fan!

Hey!! Any chances of the tour coming through Salt Lake City?? We love you out here and we haven’t had a proper show since “Phantom Moon”.
