Live Blogging the Tonys from the Tonys.

Friday, June 8th, 2007

I wasn’t sure if it was spelled “Tonies” or “Tonys” just now, so I googled it, and the NY Times has it as “Tonys”, so that’s what I’m going with.?? It is, after all, the paper of record.
So, there’s a rumor on the new front page of this site?that The Antoinette Perry Awards for Excellence […]

Members Only We Hardly Knew Ye.

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

With a heavy heart, we announce the dissolution of the DS.com Members Only area. Thanks to everyone who participated in this noble experiment, and rest assured, you?ll continue to have access to everything in there for the duration of your subscription.
As some of you feared, updates were few, and dutiful posting was […]

Apple hearts Duncan and vice versa

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Oh, Apple. We Three Sheiks all heart you a real lot, especially now. Great Apple.com profile of Duncan and Spring Awakening as part of their Pro Profiles feature. Duncan sold me on Macs about seven years ago, after nearly a decade spent on Windoze, and I’ve never looked back. And these […]

MTV

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

You can go right HERE to check out the MTV piece on Spring Awakening. I was psyched to see John Norris still holding it down up at MTV News. You. Hear it. First. Now they just need to get “Yo! MTV Raps” back on. I want to hear what Ed Lover […]

Martin Amis

Friday, January 26th, 2007

I’m in Palo Alto for the week working on The Nightingale with Steven. In a strange and fortuitous coincidence, Martin Amis gave a reading and Q and A last night just down the road from where I?m staying. His new book, House of Meetings is extraordinary in that it takes subject matter of […]

Joanna Newsom

Do yourselves a favor and listen to her new record “YS”. Gorgeous, unique and an antidote to all the pointlessness of american tabloid culture and the hackneyed music that goes along with all of that.

“Children of Men”

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

Go see this movie. I think Alfonso Cuaron is kind of a genius. I don’t want to go into great detail about the film but he has the great courage to suggest an idea that few people seem to acknowlege. Namely that, the way our modern world is heading, there is very little […]

spring awakening: opening night live blog

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

The Spring Awakening Opening Night Live-Blog is after the jump, in reverse chronological order.

La Dolce Musto

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

In his 11/21 column, Michael Musto (Village Voice) talked to Duncan about SA. It’s towards the bottom of the page. I approve of Michael’s employment of the term “shtupping” [sic-it’s “schtupping”, no?]. Under-utilized, IMO, so it officially replaces “schmuck” as my go-to Yiddish slang.
SA opens December 10th. I’m considering live-blogging the […]

Some people’s kids…

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

So, from here on in, comments will be approved before they are posted. We will do our best to approve them every day.
It’s a shame that a few have to ruin it for the many.
Peace/out.

Spring Awakening Update

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Today was the first day of rehearsals for our move uptown to the Eugene O’neil Theater. It went well but I’m tiirrreeeddd. And the cast recording is coming along nicely - hoping for an early December release to coincide with the opening of the show.

How about that Hugo Chavez?

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

I’m inclined to think he is a part of a (mostly) positive trend toward southern hemisphere autonomy, but I just bought a drum machine on e-bay from a Venezualan who is not happy about his leader at all. Thoughts?

I’m back …

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Hello all,
I’ve been in the blue ridge mountains in N. Carolina for the past few days recovering from fortune’s slings and arrows.
There’s little excuse for my lack of communication but here’s what I can tell you: I’ll be recording the Spring Awakening cast album throughout September and I hope to have it ready for release […]

Several Tours Dates moved…

tour dates changed due to Spring Awakening

these days …

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

I wish I were posting about something non music-related but I’ve been in recording mode the past couple of weeks so that’s all I have to talk about. Specifically, David Poe and I are closing in on finishing the rock band record and the first seven Spring Awakening songs from the forthcoming cast […]

sheikspeak.com

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

Well it looks like there is a new place to go for everyone to talk s++t about me. Or whatever else. This is probably best since I’ve been so bad about blogging lately. Anyway, it’s very fancy-pants so please dress appropriately while on that site.
Cheers, DS

Keep sending those remixes!

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

We’ve gotten a bunch more great White Limo remixes, but a combination of Spring Awakening and upgrading the interface on limoremix.com is responsible for the update lag over there. They’re coming, though. I’ll post something when some new ones go up. And, all you remixers: keep sending them in.

More Spring Awakening …

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

Sorry to sound like a broken record but because of some amazing reviews for Spring Awakening (and the demand for tickets) the show has been extended another four weeks through August 7th at the Atlantic Theater in NYC. I haven’t been blogging much lately because I’ve been so busy with the show (and my […]

Spring Awakening

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

So previews start tomorrow at the Atlantic Theater as you may know. The show looks amazing so I hope to see some of you guys there in the next few weeks. I’ll probably be playing guitar for the show on the 23rd, 24th, 30th and 31st of this month. (Even though they […]
